10 Ways to Support Women in Women's History Month

March 8th was International Women's Day, and the month of March is considered Women's History Month. While I don't think it comes with brisket and a pint, it still seems like something to celebrate!

Ways to support:

  • Watch some “strong female leads” or women produced, directed and/or written TV or movies.

A recent I enjoyed was Shonda Rimes’ Inventing Anna on Netflix. Or watch some female comics: Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster, Wanda Sykes, Amy Shumer…

  • Support some local women-owned businesses. Even better, make them BIPOC woman-owned!

  • Donate to a charity that supports Women or Girls. One I’ve been donating to for decades is Women for Women International.

  • Write to your Congressman or Senator about a bill they may support that oppresses women in some way, such as: reproductive rights, equal pay, victim’s rights and advocacy, domestic violence, rape & sexual assault laws, stalker laws, child protection and rights, access to affordable daycare, etc.

  • Read something written by a woman. Maya Angelou, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Betty Friedan (The Feminine Mystique) come to mind. Or read the Poem I Want a Wife by Judy Brady (1971).

Write your mom, or another strong woman who has influenced you, a thank you card.

  • Mentor a young female especially one interested in STEM fields.

  • Get involved through volunteering, attending conferences or rallies through organizations like: NOW.org, Planned Parenthood, or Malala.org

  • Ask for a raise. Hey, it’s a worth a shot since we still don’t make as much as Bob in Accounting.

  • Just be your own bad self!
